The concept map explains how to represent territory using maps and scale. The scale shows the relationship between map distance and real distance. For example, with a 1:10,000 scale, 1 cm on the map equals 100 meters in reality. Maps are classified by scale: a planisphere represents the whole Earth (scale over 1:20,000,000); geographic maps show continents or countries; chorographic maps represent regions; topographic maps describe larger detailed areas and cities; plans or maps represent small spaces such as city neighborhoods. The scale therefore determines the level of geographic detail.
