The territory of India is divided into three major regions: the Himalayan zone to the north, with Kashmir and Sikkim; the Ganges Plain, with the Thar Desert to the west; and the Deccan Peninsula. The main rivers are the Ganges, Brahmaputra, and Indus. The climate is tropical monsoon, colder in the northern regions. The main cities are New Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata.
