The lymphatic system consists of glands (thymus, tonsils and spleen), lymph nodes and lymphatic vessels, and has several functions including the transport of waste substances from cells, defense of the body, etc. The lymph in the lymphatic system flows only in one direction, from the peripheral tissues towards the heart.
